TeamUP

A successful team doesn’t happen by accident; it takes time and care. Building mutual understanding and trust, along with creating a supportive environment, are crucial for achieving top performance and ongoing improvement. Growing together, creating together, succeeding together. This is the core objective of the serious game, TeamUP.

Learning from and with each other

Playing TeamUP allows people to quickly get to know each other in new and unexpected ways, both individually and as a group. Teams often improve after playing TeamUP. But how does a game achieve that?

TeamUP fosters a unique environment that encourages meaningful conversations. It creates a playful atmosphere that brings out participants’ natural behaviours, enabling them to explore current team dynamics, patterns, and perceptions. This helps them identify what’s needed to grow in areas like collaboration, flow, performance, and results—all within a relaxed, enjoyable, and most importantly, safe setting.

“As we played TeamUP, tensions arose that we hadn’t been aware of before. As a result, we were able to resolve them completely so that our collaboration is better than ever and more effective.”

How does TeamUP benefit your organisation?

TeamUP sparks valuable conversations

Playing TeamUP creates an environment where meaningful discussions naturally emerge. The game encourages participants to engage in open dialogue, where they can freely exchange ideas, experiences, and insights. Through this process, everyone experiences firsthand how giving and receiving information can significantly enhance team performance. These conversations help to break down barriers and promote a culture of transparency, where team members feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feedback.

Fostering a safe and collaborative learning culture

TeamUP plays a vital role in cultivating a safe learning culture within the organisation. The game is designed to promote open and honest communication, where every team member’s input is valued. This supportive atmosphere not only encourages participants to share their perspectives but also ensures that these conversations are constructive and focused on continuous improvement. By fostering this kind of environment, TeamUP helps teams to work together more effectively and build stronger, more trusting relationships.

Gaining insight into team dynamics

Through playing TeamUP, participants gain a deeper understanding of the underlying patterns and dynamics that influence their team’s performance. The game provides valuable data and feedback, allowing teams to reflect on what is working well and identify areas for improvement. This collective insight helps teams to recognise and address any challenges they may face, and to develop strategies for enhancing their overall effectiveness. By understanding these mutual patterns, teams can make informed decisions that lead to better collaboration and results.

Encouraging cross-role collaboration and celebration

TeamUP encourages participants to look beyond their individual roles and responsibilities, promoting a sense of shared purpose and collaboration. The game inspires colleagues to support one another, offering help and celebrating successes as a team. This mindset shift helps to break down silos within the organisation, fostering a culture of mutual respect and cooperation. By encouraging this broader perspective, TeamUP not only improves team dynamics but also contributes to a more positive and productive work environment.

An unforgettable experience with TeamUP

TeamUP is divided into two alternating phases, each crafted to foster genuine connections among participants. You’ll witness firsthand the effects of sharing—or withholding—information and immediately put your insights into practice. TeamUP encourages impactful dialogues that yield concrete and measurable results.

Battleship

In this modern take on Battleships or Sea Battle, every team member goes head-to-head with TeamUP’s Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). Players strategically arrange their ships and aim to strike the A.I.’s fleet. As the game unfolds, everyone receives tips to aid their teammates and discovers the most effective methods for sharing information and securing victories. Each new round builds upon the lessons learned, progressively enhancing team collaboration at every turn.

Do your colleagues manage to keep giving each other information to help someone else win? And what can the team do to improve the flow of information and feedback to achieve more success together as a team?

Team challenge

The Team Challenge helps your team connect in a fun and inspiring way. Participants share personal stories, provide feedback, and reflect on their experiences through various games, while a facilitator ensures even difficult topics are addressed openly and safely. A typical TeamUP session lasts 2 to 4 hours, depending on your team’s needs, and can be played multiple times over weeks or months to maintain focus on collaboration and refine team skills. At the start, participants answer personal questions that are used throughout the game to boost understanding and cooperation. Developed from research in feedback, leadership, and motivation, TeamUP is versatile and adaptable, addressing specific organisational challenges.
